About

Instead of writing about how I went to college for photography, and have this and that for credentials, I’m going to take a different approach to this section.

My views are unlike many other area photographers… People have a system, and they stick to it, because it has worked for them for years, and is comfortable to them. Before you read on, note that I’m not saying that there is anything wrong in that way of thinking, there are in fact many very talented photographers around the East Texas area… That way of thinking isn’t one that I can adopt for my own, however.

My philosophy, when it comes to photography, is ever changing, and isn’t conventional in any way. If you’re looking for a conventional portrait or shoot, then I can definitely recommend you to somebody who can help you in that area! What you will get, if you deside to choose Matthew Hogan Photography and Design, is a product that is unlike anything you’ll get anywhere else… Creativity comes first, before “poses”, “outfits”, and “backdrops”. My favorite backdrops are those you’ll find in real life, ones that you can relate to. Whether they be a beautiful balcony, or the most amazing, yet abandoned structure, you’ll get an image that can’t be reproduced in some studio somewhere, you’ll get one that captures a moment in time. That, and only that, comes first.

Of course, sharpness, and quality are second to none, as well! I shoot only in a digital format, using one of my Digital SLR cameras, flashes, reflectors/modifiers, and whatever else is needed for the occasion. I also shoot only in RAW format… For those of you who haven’t yet heard of that term before now, it is a high resolution/high quality “digital negative”, which will yield a sharper, and more detailed image.

I’ve never had any problem with shooting traditional subjects, such as families, or weddings, of course. I do think, however, that they shouldn’t be traditional in look though, and even a family portrait can be creative, and interesting.

Want an image that you can hang up in your house on a wall full of pictures, and have a guest actually stop and immediately single it out?

…you might just be in luck.

Note: I am, in very small amounts, doing TFP work at this time, but it is still a little rare. With that being said, my package rates are quite reasonable, so please make sure to inquire if you have any questions!

    Hello Mr. Hogan,

My wife and I live in the Bahamas. I’m actually from Oregon and met my wife here about three years ago. We are in the process of starting up our own night club called “The Forbid Den”… A.K.A “The Forbidden”. While looking on line I ran across your photo of the “The Forbidden Apple” (picture of the apple in hands with nails coming out of it). Well, we love it and want it to be our focal point for the club. The gay and lesbian scene here on the island is very underground (forbidden, if you will), so we are giving them a place of their own.
We would like to know how we could acquire this photo and make it into a much larger print to showcase on our wall? Our start date is September first, so time is of the essence. You can contact us at this e-mail address, or you can call 242.322.8604.
    Thank you for your time.
    Aaron and Nicole Matecki
